Women's Tennis Stops Golden Hurricane, 6-1

FORT WORTH, Texas - The 45th-ranked TCU women's tennis team handily defeated the No. 54 Tulsa Golden Hurricane by a 6-1 count on Saturday afternoon on the public courts at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Senior Paty Aburto upended her second ranked opponent in as many days, moving the Frogs to 3-6 on the season, while Tulsa falls to 7-3.
The Frogs swept doubles for only the second time this season (other: at No. 6 USC, 1/23/04). The 38th-ranked duo of senior Saber Pierce and freshman Ana Cetnik, playing No. 1, shutout 46th-ranked Daniela Muscolino and Ilona Somers, 8-0. TCU's second doubles team of Aburto and junior Karla Mancinas made short work of Tulsa's 43rd-ranked tandem, Donata Majauskiate and Santie Delport, in an 8-3 win. Junior Paige Brown and sophomore Gloriann Lopez easily defeated Zoe Buhagiar and Kindsay Grimes, 8-2, at No. 3.
All six singles matches were won in straight sets, with the Frogs taking all but one. Aburto pounded out her second two-set win over a ranked opponent in the last two days, as she took care of 70th-ranked Daniela Muscolino, 6-3, 6-2, at one singles. Freshman Jenn Chay fought to a 7-5, 7-6 victory against Donata Majauskiate at the second spot. Cetnik topped Lisette Pereira and Mancinas defeated Timberly Greenly, at Nos. 4 and 5 respectively, by identical 6-1, 6-2 scores. At No. 6, Lopez handed Delport a 6-1, 6-4 loss.
In an extra match, Brown defeated Tiffany Smith, 6-3, 5-7, 10-7.
