FORT WORTH – TCU’s women’s tennis team won its second-straight match Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Princeton at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The 49th-ranked Horned Frogs improved to 6-3 on the year, while No. 55 Princeton dropped to 5-6. TCU has won both of the meetings between the two private institutions all-time.

“I thought the kids did a great job today,” TCU coach Dave Borelli said. “I thought all of them stepped up. A couple of kids had a rough time, but they’ve won matches other times when others haven’t played as well. I was really proud of Simona. She played despite injury because others were hurt and was able to win singles and doubles.”

TCU opened the match with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to take a 1-0 lead. TCU’s No. 3 duo, Gaby Mastromarino and Simona Parajova, ran their record to 5-0 this spring with an 8-3 triumph over Joan Cannon and Monica Chow.

Federica Denti and Kelsey Sundaram clinched the doubles point for the second-straight match with their 8-6 win over Katherine Flanigan and Katie Goepel. The Frog tandem is 5-3 this spring.

After Princeton briefly tied the match, Sundaram put TCU back on top with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Cannon at No. 6 singles. Denti pushed the Frog advantage to 3-1 when she won the third time this week. Her 6-0, 6-3 downing of Goepel at the fourth singles spot improved her season mark to a team-best 6-1.

Freshman Stefanie Tan scored the winning fourth point for the Frogs at No. 1 singles. The Bishan, Singapore, native won her second-straight match in 6-4, 6-2 fashion over Hilary Bartlett.

Parajova picked up TCU’s fifth and final point when she took care of Flanigan at No. 3 singles. The Frog freshman was a 6-4, 6-3 winner and is 5-3 in singles this spring.

TCU returns to action March 11 when Marquette visits the Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for noon.
