TCU Goes Undefeated on Tuesday

FORT WORTH, Texas – A 5-2 upset victory over No. 63 North Florida, highlighted the TCU women’s tennis team’s Tuesday doubleheader, which also include a 4-0 win over Louisiana Tech at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (7-7) handed both the Lady Techsters (10-2) and the Ospreys (6-2) only their second losses of the season, as three different TCU student-athletes went undefeated in the matches.
TCU opened the day by picking up the doubles point, as Simona Parajova and Monika Sirilova downed Mata Sramkova and Alexandra Starkova, 8-2, on court two. Stefanie Tan and Seda Arantekin completed the doubles point on court one by shutting down Jazmin Britos and Joanna Nalborska 8-5.
With a retirement on court two, Parajova notched her team-leading ninth win and put TCU ahead 2-0 in the match. No. 53 Tan extended the lead to 3-0 by quickly taking care of Starkova with a 6-1, 6-1 downing at No. 1 singles. Arantekin sealed off the 4-0 team victory when she completed a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Britos.
The Frogs returned in the afternoon to take on North Florida and recorded a team doubles victory again. Despite dropping the doubles match on court three, the team rebounded with wins on courts one and two to take the point.
A retirement on court six evened the match at 1-1, before Mimi Fotopoulos earned a her first win since returning from an injury with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Rebeca Pereira on court three to put TCU ahead 2-1.
Arantekin dropped her match on court four and the Ospreys tied the match up at 2-2, but just minutes later, Sofiko Kadzhaya picked up a 7-5, 7-6(2) win on court five, as TCU regained the lead at 3-2. Parajova clinched the win for the Frogs by putting away Esther Zuniga 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 on court two for a 10-0 singles record in dual matches.
With the win already in place, No. 53 Tan completed a comeback in her match to defeat Simona Weymar 7-6 (6), 6-3, to officially make the match win 5-2 for TCU.
TCU will finish up its four-match home stand by hosting Texas on Friday, Mar. 14 at 2 p.m., for its first Big 12 match of the 2014 season. Free admission and free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros. will be available for the match at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
