Frogs End Successful Road Trip With 5-2 Win Over Ohio State
March 12, 2005
Columbus. Ohio - The No. 20 TCU women's tennis team closed out its four-game road trip with a 5-2 victory over Ohio State at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center in Columbus, Ohio. The Frogs won are now a perfect 5-0 on the road and 10-1 overall after they won the doubles point and picked up wins at one, two, three and five in singles.
"This was a great trip for us," said Head Coach Dave Borelli. "Coming on the road to win three tough matches indoors is a good way to help us get better for the rest of the season. We had some steady performers this week and the kids' attitudes were outstanding. We're off to a good start this season, but I believe that we'll continue to improve the rest of the way."
The Frogs claimed the doubles point for the tenth time this season in easy fashion. Paige Brown and Andrea Morgado broke their two-match slide with an 8-2 win over Caitlin O'Keefe and Emily Howard. No. 52 Ana Cetnik and Story Tweedie-Yates then clinched the point and improved to 9-1 on the season when they topped Lindsey Adams and Sonia Ruzimovsky, 8-3.
The Buckeyes avoided the sweep in doubles when Emily DeCamilla and Meredith Vincent snapped Helena Besovic and Karla Mancinas' four-match winning streak, 8-3. The TCU pair is now 14-6 overall record, which includes a 6-3 record this spring.
In singles, Ohio State evened the score at 1-1 apiece when Ana Cetnik retired her match with Ruzimovsky at the No. 4 spot while she was winning 3-2. Cetnik has been battling an injury since mid-February.
The Frogs quickly regained the lead and clinched the match as they won the next four matches. No. 17 Tweedie-Yates topped Adams, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot to pick up her 20th win this season. Kewa Nichols improved her spring record to 9-2 when she topped Vincent, 6-2, 6-3, at the three. No. 52 Besovic then clinched the win for the Frogs as she topped DeCamilla, 6-4, 6-0. Gloriann Lopez picked up the final win of the day for TCU at the five spot, which was a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kristin Messmer.
The Buckeyes got their second point of the day when O'Keefe topped Morgado, 6-3, 6-4, at the six spot in the line-up. Morgado is now 15-8 overall this season.
The Frogs will go for the Big Ten sweep on March 18 when the Iowa Hawkeyes come to Fort Worth for a 12 p.m. match.
