TCU Shuts Out West Virginia

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 57 TCU women’s tennis team picked up a 4-0 shut out of West Virginia on Sunday morning in Morgantown, W.Va., at the Ridgeview Racquet Club.
The Horned Frogs (10-9, 3-2 Big 12) battled to a tiebreaker to win the doubles point over the Mountaineers (3-14, 0-6) and then were dominate in singles action and won in straight sets on courts one, two and three to clinch the match.
Stefanie Tan and Seda Arantekin won the first doubles match for TCU for the third match in a row, as the duo took down Kaja Mrgole and Oana Manole, 8-6, on court one. The pair is now 8-3 on the season and have won five of their last seven matches.
The decision would come down to the other two courts, which both went into a tiebreaker. Sofiko Kadzhaya and Sandra Ibarra would come out victorious first with a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker on court three to seal the doubles point for TCU.
The Frogs continued their winning ways into singles and overwhelmed the Mountaineers, as No. 121 Simona Parajova knocked out Mrgole 6-1, 6-0 to put TCU ahead 2-0 in the match. Parajova continues to lead the team with 13 wins in dual matches.
Kadzhaya followed up Parajova’s win with a 6-3, 6-0 take out on court three to firmly put the Frogs in the lead. Kadzhaya remains undefeated in Big 12 play with a 5-0 record and is 9-7 overall in dual matches.
No. 59 Tan would finish off the match for TCU with a 6-3, 6-2 downing of Hailey Barrett on court one and improved her overall record to 12-3 on the year and 3-2 in Big 12 play.
TCU will return home to face Baylor on Wednesday, April 2 at 5 p.m., at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, before traveling to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech on Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m.
