Women's Tennis Falls 5-2 to No. 14 South Alabama

FORT WORTH, Texas - The 58th-ranked TCU women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 5-2 match to the 14th-ranked Jaguars of South Alabama on Friday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The loss puts the Frogs' overall record at 7-9, while South Alabama advances to 16-4 for the season.
South Alabama claimed the doubles point, but only after fighting its way to a 9-8(6) win at the No. 3 spot as Andrea Kurekova and Dominika Nemcovicova topped senior Brenna Shackelford and sophomore Ivonne Andrade. The Frogs did pick up a doubles victory with an 8-4 win by junior Saber Pierce and sophomore Karla Mancinas at the second position.
In singles play, the Frogs were able to claim only two wins for the afternoon, but did push the final two matches to a full three sets. Senior Rosa Perez earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Andrea Kurekova at No. 2, while Pierce claimed a 6-1, 6-4 advantage over Marlieke Jager at the third spot.
Freshman Iris Jaklin came back from a 6-1 first-set deficit to win the second 6-0, before falling 6-4 in the third against Klara Jarova giving USA the necessary fourth point to clinch the win. Mancinas also pushed her set to the full three, losing 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 to Katarina Palenikova to finish the day's matches.
The Frogs finish their home season on Saturday, April 5 when they host Rice at noon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. It will be the final home contests for seniors Brenna Shackelford and Rosa Perez. The team finishes the regular season on April 8 with a match at SMU.
