Women's Tennis Wins Final Home Match of Season Over Rice

FORT WORTH, Texas - The 58th-ranked TCU women's tennis team broke a three-match losing streak with its 5-2 win over Rice on Saturday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The win moves the Frogs' record to 8-9, including an 8-4 mark when playing at home, while Rice drops to 8-11.
TCU won the doubles points with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. The 51st-ranked tandem of junior Paty Aburto and senior Rosa Perez defeated Lauren Archer and Blair DiSesa, 8-5, at No. 1. Junior Saber Pierce and sophomore Karla Mancinas, playing at the second spot, picked up an 8-4 victory over Karen Chao and Erika Villalobos.
The Frogs claimed singles victories at the first four positions to seal the match. Mancinas, playing at No. 4, earned the first singles win of the day with a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-3) over Chao. Pierce followed suit with a 6-1, 7-5 win against Jeri Gonzales at No. 3. Perez's win at No. 2 clinched the match for TCU as she topped DiSesa by a 6-1, 6-2 count. At No. 1, Aburto won a tough tiebreaker in the second set to pick up the 6-1, 7-6 win over Archer.
The Frogs finish the regular season on April 8 with a match at SMU. Play will begin at 5:00 p.m. Next weekend, the team will head to New Orleans for the 2003 Conference USA Championship.
