LARAMIE, Wyo. – TCU’s 41st-ranked women’s tennis team stretched its winning streak to six matches with a 5-2 triumph over No. 59 Wyoming at the UW Indoor Tennis Courts.

The Horned Frogs moved to 13-5 on the year and 5-0 in Mountain West play. They also stayed alone in first place in the league standings. The Cowgirls fell to 10-8 and 2-2 in the conference. TCU matched its win total from a year ago.

“It was another good win with all the matches we’ve had on the road,” TCU coach Dave Borelli said. “We’ll take the win playing on the road and at almost 7,200 feet of elevation. It’s tough to play at elevation like we’ve had to twice and in the major winds like we faced last weekend. It’s been a great effort by the kids to win these matches.”

Gaby Mastromarino and Simona Parajova were winners once again at No. 3 doubles as the Frogs won the doubles point to open the match. They took down Silviya Zhelyazkova and Jessica Parizher, 8-3, to improve to 12-1 this spring and 5-0 against MW foes.

Millie Nichols and Olivia Smith won TCU’s other match to give TCU a 1-0 lead. The Frog tandem, ranked No. 79, won 8-4 over No. 45 Veronia Popovici and Simona Synkova, the Mountain West’s highest-ranked doubles team.

With only four courts available at the UW Indoor Tennis Facility, TCU won two of the first four matches in action to take a 3-2 lead. No. 67-ranked Stefanie Tan was a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 winner over Popovici at No. 1 singles. Smith added a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Alexandra Kovacs at No. 3 singles.

The Frogs continued to get solid production from the bottom of their lineup as Nichols and Mastromarino won at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Nichols picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Parizher and Mastromarino won 6-4, 6-1 over Zhelyazhova to give TCU a 5-2 triumph.

TCU closes the road portion of its regular season schedule Sunday with a 10:30 a.m., matchup at Colorado State. With a win, TCU can clinch at least a share of the Mountain West regular season title.
