TCU Comes Up Short at Oklahoma

Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas – A road trip in the state of Oklahoma came to an end on Sunday as the TCU women’s tennis team came up short to Oklahoma, 4-1, at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.

The Sooners (13-10, 3-4 Big 12) came out to a hot start in doubles against the Horned Frogs (9-13, 0-7 Big 12) and built too much of a lead as they grabbed wins on courts one and two to record the early 1-0 lead in the match.

Marie Norris was able to put TCU on the board as the junior picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court four for her third straight win of the season. The rest of the courts were in Oklahoma’s favor as the Sooners picked up wins on courts one, three and six to finish off the match and get the 4-1 victory.

Quote from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
“Obviously, it hurts to lose and this was not one we forecasted, but give credit to Coach (Audra) Cohen for having her team playing well down the stretch this season and congratulations to her. I was happy to see Marie (Norris) continue her winning ways. We want to keep her going and get her up higher in lineup. Aleksa (Cveticanin) also played some really quality tennis. For her to get that valuable experience against two quality senior opponents this weekend should bode well for her future. She showed a lot of growth from Friday night to today and Lily (Miyazaki) just was too good in the end today.

“Overall, our team is in a tough spot. One that myself and many of us have never been in. What will be a priority for our team from here on out will be embodying the values that we want to exude as a program and the characteristics we really believe in regardless of the tangible reward that may bring us. We know we have to go undefeated the rest of season and make the finals of Big 12 tournament to make NCAAs. That's quite a task, but it is an accomplishable goal and is our aim. But in all honesty, it's our secondary aim at this point. We primarily want to operate professionally in every we can control over the next few weeks. We want to have great sportsmanship, fight for every ball, play with joy and enthusiasm and a sense of gratitude. We want to play smart, disciplined tennis and have self-control. We want our seniors to be selfless, passionate, outspoken leaders regarding these things. If we can do this, we will right the ship and get our culture and winning ways back. It may pay off for this year. It may not. But it's the right thing to do, and something I'm passionate to do.”
