AUSTIN, Texas – The postseason for the TCU women’s tennis team began with a 5-1 victory over West Virginia on Thursday afternoon to open the 2018 Big 12 Championship at the Texas Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.

The Horned Frogs (13-13) and the Mountaineers (8-13) opened doubles action by splitting the top two courts with Alexis Pereira and Donika Bashota getting the 6-3 victory on court two. The doubles point would go to TCU as Aleksa Cveticanin and Aleksandra Zenovka used an early break to win their fourth straight match with a 6-4 victory on court three.

Marie Norris and Cveticanin quickly took control of their courts in singles action with Norris cruising past Anne-Sophie Courteau on court two, 6-2, 6-0, for point No. 2 in the match. Cveticanin followed just moments later with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court one for her fourth straight singles win. A battle for the final point ensued with Bashota and Elizabeth Tedford finishing simultaneously to clinch the point needed for the overall team win with straight-set victories on their respective courts.

Quote from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
“It was a tough match today. I think the situation itself is a bit tough playing the same team four days later with everything to lose and nothing to gain. West Virginia played well and fought, but we were able to remain resilient and get through it. Marie (Norris) and Aleksa (Cveticanin) played sharp and it was good that they were quick so they could save their legs. I was really proud of Elizabeth (Tedford) for closing it out and the way she moved forward was excellent. Alexis (Pereira) with a nice comeback to win the second and Donika (Bashota) also getting a solid close out in her match. We've been building for this moment for two weeks. We've known this situation was coming and we are going to sharpen up a few things this afternoon so we can get it done tomorrow. We are all excited about this opportunity and we are prepared to make the most of it."
