FORT WORTH, Texas - For only the second time this season, the No. 37 TCU women's tennis team stormed back after dropping the doubles point to seal a 4-3 upset victory over No. 29 Wichita State on Friday morning in the first round of the NCAA Division I Team Championship at the Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.

The Horned Frogs (16-6) snapped the Shockers (27-4) 17-match winning streak and moved into the second round of the NCAA Championship for the eighth time in program history.

After Wichita State grabbed the doubles point, TCU did not falter and took the first three singles matches in straight sets. Caroline Wegner put the first point on the board as the junior scored win No. 20 this season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory on court three. Olaya Garrido-Rivas put the Frogs in the lead by downing Rebecca Pedrazzi, 6-4, 6-3 on court two to increase her winning streak to five. Alexis Pereira followed that up with a 6-3, 7-5 win at the No. 6 position to put TCU up 3-1.

The Shockers would even up the match with wins on courts five and four with all attention turning to court one for the match decision. Playing at the No. 1 position for the first time this season, Seda Arantekin used a second-set tiebreaker to upset No. 91 Gabriela Porubin, 6-3, 7-6(3), and seal the 4-3 victory for the Frogs and move the team into the second round.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
"Well today was a rollercoaster of a match and I am so proud of the girls for what they just displayed. We lost the doubles point easily, we were without one of our top players and honestly it was just not feeling too good after doubles. But everyone brought a desperation type of energy to their first sets and it helped us pick up some momentum immediately in singles. For Seda (Arantekin) to clinch at the No. 1 position is just a indication of the positive trend she's had all year long. For us to get out with all straight set wins also saves our legs for tomorrow's match. The girls aren't yet finished. They know they can keep going tomorrow. It will be tough, but knowing that Texas Tech has beat Miami this year, and knowing that we have beat Texas Tech gives us some objective reasoning to believe and fight hard to victory."
