Tweedie-Yates Advances To NCAA Round of 16 in Singles and Doubles

Athens, Ga. - TCU women's tennis player Story Tweedie-Yates won her 20th consecutive singles match today to advance to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship, which are being held at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The senior also advanced to the Round of 16 while pairing with sophomore Ana Cetnik in the 32-team doubles draw.
In her singles match, Tweedie-Yates topped No. 45 Maja Kovacek in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (3), to advance. The victory improves her overall record to 36-4 this season, which includes an impressive 18-4 mark against ranked opponents.
With the victory, Tweedie-Yates will now face off with her former Stanford teammate, No. 32 Theresa Logar, on Wednesday morning beginning at 9 a.m. (CST). In her second round match, Logar topped No. 8 Suzi Babos, 6-1, 6-3.
This will be the second meeting between the two players this season. In October at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship, Tweedie-Yates topped Logar in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the event's quarterfinals. No player in TCU history has ever advanced past the Sweet 16.
In doubles, No. 29 Cetnik and Tweedie-Yates improved to 20-3 this season with their easy victory over No. 16 Karin Coetzee and Alexandra Hirsch of Wake Forest. The Horned Frog duo topped the Demon Deacon pair by the count of 6-1, 6-3. They will now face No. 6 Catrina and Christian Thompson of Notre Dame, who topped Zsuzsanna Fodor and Anastasia Kugakolova of Mississippi State, 6-3, 6-1. The match will begin at 1 p.m. (CST).
Junior Helena Besovic had her junior campaign come to a close in the Round of 32 when she fell to No. 17 Audra Falk of Vanderbilt in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. The Sarajevo, Bosnia, native ends her first Horned Frog season with a 36-10 overall record.
