TCU Pair Fall in NCAA Opening Round

FORT WORTH, Texas – The 2016-17 season for the TCU women’s tennis team came to a close on Thursday afternoon as the doubles pair of Donika Bashota and Olaya Garrido-Rivas fell in the opening round of the 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Doubles Championship at the Dan Magill Tennis Center in Athens, Ga.

The No. 19 ranked duo dropped the match in straight sets to the No. 14 pair of Alizee Michaud and Taylor Russo of Auburn. TCU got off to a slow start as the Auburn duo were able to open the match with a 6-0 victory in the first set. The Horned Frogs rebounded by taking the first two games in the second set, but Auburn responded by taking six of the next seven games to finish off the match, 6-0, 6-2.

TCU finishes the 2016-17 season with an overall record of 14-10 and a 5-4 mark in Big 12 action. The Frogs defeated three ranked opponents on their way to grabbing their 18th NCAA Championship bid and third straight. In the final Oracle/ITA poll that was recently released, TCU finished with a No. 28 ranking.
