Cetnik/Tweedie-Yates Bow Out In NCAA Semifinals
May 27, 2005
Athens, Ga. - Sophomore Ana Cetnik and Story Tweedie-Yates had their run into the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship end today at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. The Frog pair fell to No. 8 Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette of Stanford in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
"This was a tight match against two players from the best program in the country," said Head Coach Dave Borelli. "We played a good match, but Stanford just performed at a higher level than us today. Overall it was a benchmark year for our program. We're right up there with the elite teams in the country and we proved that we can play with anyone."
No. 29 Cetnik and Tweedie-Yates dropped their first set of the championship in the opener by the count of 6-4. However, the TCU pair then rallied to jump out to a 5-1 lead in the second, before holding on to win, 6-3. In the deciding set, the score was even at 3-3 when Barnes and Burdette went on to win the final three games to advance to the final.
No. 8 Barnes and Burdette will now face their teammates No. 36 Amber Liu and Anne Yelsey in an all-Stanford final. It is the third time in history that two pairs from the same team will compete against one another in the final.
Cetnik and Tweedie-Yates close out the season with a 22-4 overall record. They are the fifth and sixth All-America selections in TCU history and the first since former Frogs Lucie Dvorakova and Daria Zoldakova in 2000.
