LOS ANGELES – TCU’S Millie Nichols advanced in singles, while Monika Sirilova and Simona Parajova stayed alive in doubles action for prequalifying of the Riveria/ITA Women’s All-American Championships.
Nichols came from behind in both of her matches, knocking off Arizona’s Akilah James, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-1 befor returning to down Alysa Hibberd of Memphis, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round. Parajova dropped a tough match in the first round, 6-3, 6-1 to Florida’s Danielle Collins.
“Millie played really well coming from behind in both matches,” TCU coach Dave Borelli said. “That was a tough draw for Simona. Danielle Collins is one of the top five freshman in college tennis this season.”
Slovakian partners Parajova and Sirilova made quick work of their opponents in the doubles first round, bettering April Bisharat and Claudia Razzeto of LMU, 8-1.
Play continues Sunday in prequalifying of th Riveria/ITA Women’s All-American Championships.
