Oct. 7, 2004
Pacific Palisades, Calif. - Senior Story Tweedie-Yates moved on to the Round of 16 in the Main Draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships today after she defeated No. 9 Aibika Kalsarieva of Kentucky in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. "There's a buzz around here about Story," said Head Coach Dave Borelli. "She's definitely the talk of the tournament."
In the first set, Tweedie-Yates lost the two games, but in both cases she had game point forcing Kalsarieva to play flawlessly.
"This was one of the best collegiate matches that I have ever seen," said Borelli. "Every point was so drawn out. Both players were getting to about every ball and they just weren't making any mistakes."
"Kalsarieva is a very strong player and Story made some really good adjustments during the match to win," said Borelli.
With the win, Tweedie-Yates sets up a Friday showdown with No. 26 Theresa Logar, one of her former teammates at Stanford, at 11 a.m. Logar advanced in the draw after she defeated No. 19 Jackie Carleton of Duke 6-4, 6-4.
