WTEN Wraps-Up Fall Slate

Nov. 16, 2015

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU women’s tennis wrapped-up its fall slate this past weekend, as four Horned Frogs competed at the Rebel Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev., on the campus of UNLV.

Lone senior Mia King scored a victory over a ranked opponent and advanced to the finals of Flight Four at the invitational. King opened the tournament with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over No. 61 Meredith Zepoleas of USC, before downing Reka Szentes of UNLV, 7-6, 6-2. King came up just short in the finals, as Ella Taylor of LSU defeated King, 6-2, 6-4.

Sofiko Kadzhaya was able to continue her singles success this fall and opened the invitational by defeating Rita Bermudez of Idaho, 6-1, 6-2. Kadzhaya dropped her semifinal match, but was able to rebound by taking third in Flight Two with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Elizabeth Profit of Baylor.

Kadzhaya paired up with Aleksandra Zenovka to go undefeated in their doubles matches, as the duo were able to defeat both teams from Idaho. The TCU pair were first able to score a win over Maria Tavares and Celine Koets, 8-2, before upending Ana Batiri and Belen Badillos, 8-6.

Quotes from the Day
Assistant Coach Ben Stapp
“This tournament had a few surprises in the draw. Each of the girls came up against players from top-10 teams at some stage. We went 2-2 with those matches, and had big opportunities in the two matches that we lost. The girls learned a lot in these situations and can hopefully hit the drawing board over the next few weeks and get better leading into the spring.”
