FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team earned a No. 25 ranking in the season's first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll released on Tuesday. Two Frogs appeared in the national singles rankings, along with a pair of doubles squads. All eight Frogs were also listed on the ITA Regional rankings.
Junior Nina Munch-Soegaard earned a singles ranking of No. 12 after leading the team in the fall with a 13-5 record. Munch-Soegaard won 12-straight matches, including a six-match stretch where the Amarillo, Texas product claimed Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Singles Championship and advanced to the semifinals at the ITA National Indoor Championships. Munch-Soegaard was also named as the top singles player in the Southwest region.
Despite not being ranked in the preseason rankings before the fall semester, senior Macall Harkins claimed a singles ranking of No. 49. The Palos Verdes, Calif., took down four ranked opponents during the fall season. Harkins will begin the spring schedule ranked fifth in the Southwest Region.
Harkins also joins doubles teammate, Anna Sydorska, in the doubles rankings, beginning the year ranked No. 16 by ITA. TCU's top doubles tandem advanced to the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional doubles finals, as well as the semifinals of the ITA National Indoor Championships. The pairing also landed as the third-ranked doubles team in the region, behind squads from LSU and Baylor.
The doubles duo of Munch-Soegaard and sophomore Maria Babanova garnered a No. 28 national ranking and a No. 6 regional ranking after posting a 8-3 record in the fall. The Frog pair advanced to the semifinals of the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championship and claimed a perfect 10-0 record as a pairing last spring.
Other Frogs included in the regional rankings include freshman Kayla Duncan (No. 18), Sydorska (No. 22), sophomore Katariina Tuohimaa (No. 26) and newcomer Gaby Mastromarino (No. 28).
