Preview: Southern Miss & Arkansas St.

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 25 TCU women’s tennis team will kick-off the 2018 spring season on Friday, Jan. 19 with a doubleheader as they welcome Southern Miss and Arkansas State to the indoor facility at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.

Admission is free for both matches as the Horned Frogs (0-0) open the day against the Golden Eagles (0-0) at 9 a.m., before facing the Red Wolves (0-0) at Noon. Fans in attendance can enjoy free doughnuts and coffee during the morning match and free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., served in between doubles and singles action during the afternoon match.

TCU Notables
TCU will open the spring season at home for the third time in the last four years under the direction of head coach Lee Taylor Walker. It also marks the second straight year the Frogs will have a doubleheader on opening day.

TCU is coming off a week in Hawaii where they competed in the Weinman Foundation Invitational to complete fall action. Aleksandra Zenovka leads the team with a No. 59 ranking in the Oracle/ITA singles poll and nine wins on the season. Newcomer Aleksa Cveticanin sits at No. 71 in the poll with four wins on the season. Fellow freshman Stevie Kennedy leads the pack with 10 wins on the season while classmate Meredith Roberts has posted eight wins in singles action.

Scouting the Golden Eagles
Southern Miss enters the 2018 spring season after competing in three fall tournaments. Rikeetha Pereira advanced to the semifinals of singles at the ITA Southern Regional Championships and leads the team with four victories on the season, while Claudia Castella has three wins.

Scouting the Red Wolves
Arkansas State competed in four fall tournaments with Allison Quammen and Shannon O’Brien each holding a winning record and four victories on the season. The matches on Friday will mark the first of the spring season for the Red Wolves.

All-Time Series Records
TCU and Southern Miss will be facing each other for the first time in program history.

The match between the Frogs and Arkansas State will be the third meeting all-time between the programs with TCU holding a 2-0 record in the series. This will be the first match between the teams since 1999 and the third time they have faced off in Fort Worth.
