Preview: ITA Kick-Off Weekend

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 24 TCU women’s tennis team will take to the road for the first time in the 2018 season as they head to Stillwater, Okla., to take part in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Oklahoma State from Jan. 26-27.

The Horned Frogs (2-0) are the No. 2 seed in the four-team pod and will face the third seed, No. 23 Ole Miss (1-0), on Friday at 1 p.m., at the Greenwood Tennis Center. Host and No. 15 Oklahoma State (3-0) is the No. 1 seed and No. 22 Arizona State (1-0) is the No. 4 seed, as the two teams will face-off on Friday at 4 p.m. The winners of each match will play on Saturday at 3 p.m., for a berth to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship hosted by Wisconsin from Feb. 9-12 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisc.

TCU Notables
TCU is 2-0 to open the season for the 23rd time in program history and sixth time out of the last seven seasons. The Frogs picked up two 4-0 victories in the opening weekend of action as they downed Southern Miss and Arkansas State. After the two wins, TCU moved up one spot in the Oracle/ITA rankings to No. 24.

Donika Bashota led all players in the first two matches with four wins across doubles and singles. The senior won both matches in straight sets in singles at the No. 1 spot while pairing up with Elizabeth Tedford for wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions in doubles. Aleksandra Zenovka leads the team with a No. 59 ranking in the Oracle/ITA singles poll and 11 wins on the season. Newcomer Aleksa Cveticanin sits at No. 71 in the poll with four wins on the season and junior Marie Norris is riding a four-match winning streak and sits at 7-1 on the season.

Scouting the Rebels
Ole Miss enters the match on Friday with only one dual match under its belt as the Rebels were able to get a 5-2 victory over Purdue last weekend.

Ole Miss boasts four ranked singles players and three doubles tandems so far this season. Arianne Hartono leads the team with 10 wins in singles action with five coming over ranked opponents and a No. 50 ranking, while Sabina Machalova checks in at No. 62 with eight wins so far this season. Natalie Suk (No. 81) and Tea Jandric (No. 95) round out the singles rankings for the Rebels. Hartono and Alexa Bortles hold the highest doubles ranking at No. 13 with 10 wins overall and three win over ranked opponents. Machalova and Suk (No. 22) along with Jandric and Anna Vrbenska (No. 58) finish off the rankings for Ole Miss.

All-Time Series Records
TCU and Ole Miss will be facing each other for the sixth time in program history on Friday with the Rebels holding the 3-2 advantage in the overall series record. The last time the teams met came back in March of 2008 in Oxford, Miss., with TCU getting the 6-1 victory. Friday’s match will mark the first time in program history the teams with play a match on neutral grounds.
