No. 25 TCU Readies for Road Trip

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 25 TCU women’s tennis team will hit the road for three matches against No. 74 DePaul, No. 30 Purdue and No. 42 Illinois on Jan. 31-Feb. 2.

The Horned Frogs (3-1, 0-0 Big 12) will first head to Chicago, Ill., to take on the Blue Demons (1-1, 0-0 Big East) on Friday at 1 p.m., before traveling to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on the Boilermakers (1-1, 0-0 Big 10) on Saturday at 11 a.m. TCU wraps up the trip with a match against the Illini (3-0, 0-0 Big 10) in Urbana, Ill., on Sunday at 11 a.m.

TCU Noteables
TCU is 3-1 on the season and moved up five spots in the national poll to No. 25 after going 1-1 at the ITA National Kick-Off in Los Angeles, Calif. The Frogs first took down No. 38 UC Irvine 4-0, before falling to No. 5 UCLA 4-1.

No. 30 Stefanie Tan and Simona Parajova lead the team with a 3-0 record in singles action, while the duo is also 2-1 in doubles play. Seda Arantekin and Millie Nichols are also helping pace the team at the No. 1 position in doubles with a 2-1 record.

Scouting the Opponents
DePaul is coming off a 1-1 showing in the ITA National Kick-Off, where the Blue Demons first defeated San Jose State 4-1, before falling to No. 7 Texas A&M 4-1. Ana Vladutu paces the team in the national rankings and is sitting at No. 52 in the singles rankings and No. 38 in the doubles ranking with teammate Jasim Kling.

Purdue was also in action at the ITA National Kick-Off and went 1-1 as well in the tournament with a first round 4-3 loss to No. 32 Tennessee and then bouncing back to take down No. 56 Fresno State 4-0. Senior Mara Schmidt leads the team in singles play and has a No. 110 singles ranking. Schmidt is 3-2 in singles action since the start of 2014 and is undefeated with partner Krisztina Kapitany in doubles in January.

Illinois is undefeated to start 2014 and moved up to No. 42 in the rankings after blanking SLU, University of Chicago and Illinois State 7-0 to open the season last weekend. Five Illini are 3-0 to start the season in singles, while the doubles teams of Alexis Casati and Melissa Kopinski and Misia Kedzierski and Louise Kwong are 3-0 as well.

All-Time Series Records
This will be the first meeting in program history between the Blue Demons and Frogs, while TCU holds winning series records over the Boilermakers and Illini. TCU and Purdue last met in 2005, with the Frogs coming away with a 4-3 win and improving the all-time series record to 3-1. Illinois visited TCU back in 2010 and took a 4-3 win to bring the series record to 3-2 in favor of the Frogs.

New Format
All three matches this weekend will be played under the experimental ITA format. During the first six weeks of play, the women will be playing all sets in singles and doubles to six games, with regular scoring and tiebreakers at 6-all. However, if a singles match splits sets, a match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
