FORT WORTH – TCU’s women’s tennis team returns to action this weekend when it hosts Old Dominion and Alabama at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
First serve on Friday against Old Dominion is set for 2 p.m. on the Bartzen Varsity Courts. Saturday’s match, pitting the No. 38 Horned Frogs and the No. 9 Crimson Tide, is a 1 p.m. first serve at the Friedman indoor facility.
TCU is 2-0 on the year with wins over Nicholls State and Sam Houston State. ODU is 4-0 and will be playing its first road match of the season. Alabama, which last weekend punched its ticket to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, is 2-0.
The matchup between ODU and TCU will be the first in the history of the two programs, while TCU has faced Alabama four times. The Crimson Tide have won all four, including last year’s 5-2 win in Tuscaloosa.
TCU’s Millie Nichols, Simona Parajova and Olivia Smith both stand at 2-0 in singles, while top singles player Stefanie Tan is 1-0. In last year’s match, Tan knocked off Alabama’s Mary Anne Macfarlane, who is 12th in the ITA singles rankings. She is one of four Crimson Tide players ranked among the nation’s top 105-ranked players.
In doubles, the TCU duo of Federica Denti and Kelsey Sundaram is 2-0, as are Gabi Barbosa and Parajova. TCU’s No. 1 doubles tandem of Smith and Nichols is 1-1. They are likely to face Macfarlane and Alexa Guarachi of Alabama, the second-ranked pair in the NCAA.
Saturday’s match will be played simultaneously to the TCU men’s team, who face No. 16 Texas A&M on the outdoor courts of the Friedman Tennis Center.
