FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 41 TCU women's tennis is set for a showdown, as the team takes on Metroplex rival SMU on Friday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m., at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (3-5, 0-0 Big 12) and the Mustangs (1-7, 0-0 AAC) are both looking to snap losing skids as the teams meet up on the Bernard J. `Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts.
TCU is one of seven Big 12 teams ranked in the top 55 in the national poll. The Frogs have already played an extremely strong schedule early in the season and dropped their last four matches to nationally ranked opponents, while playing without three of their top four players for three of the matches.
The team is coming off a tough loss to No. 32 Memphis, as TCU fell just short at 4-3. The Frogs did return No. 1 and No. 2 singles players Stefanie Tan and Simona Parajova for the match, as both posted victories for the day. Tan continues to be ranked nationally in the singles poll at No. 52 and leads the team with a perfect 4-0 record at No. 1 singles. Parajova is also 4-0 on court two, while the duo pair up in doubles for a 2-1 record.
Scouting the Mustangs
SMU started the season with a 6-1 win over Stephen F. Austin, but have fallen in their last six matches, with four of them coming against ranked opponents. The team recently finished playing four matches in a seven-day span, where freshman Dasha Sharapova led the team with a 2-1 mark. The Mustangs boast a nationally ranked singles player in No. 108 Vaszilisza Bulgakova, who is 2-2 on court one for SMU.
All-Time Series Records
TCU holds a 28-20 lead in the series record over SMU, with the Frogs claiming victory the last two seasons. Last spring, TCU had to bounce back from losing the doubles point, as the team won four singles matches to seal a 4-3 decision over the Mustangs.
