Preview: Brown & UNT

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 42 TCU women’s tennis team will wrap-up a four-match home stand by welcoming Brown and North Texas to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Saturday, March 3 and Monday, March 5, respectively.

The Horned Frogs (7-5) will first take on the Bears (5-5) on Saturday at 1 p.m., before welcoming the Mean Green (4-5) on Monday at 5:30 p.m., to the Bernard J. ‘Tut’ Bartzen Varsity Courts. Admission is free to both matches and fans in attendance can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., served in between doubles and singles action.

TCU Notables
After suffering two losses, TCU rebounded with a 4-1 win over UCF to improve to 7-2 in matches played at home. The Frogs easily picked up the doubles point before securing three wins at positions two, three and four in singles action.

In the most recent Oracle/ITA rankings, Aleksandra Zenovka leads the Frogs with a No. 82 ranking in singles and is one of three players with 14 wins. Zenovka has been ranked since late fall and has defeated three ranked opponents. Aleksa Cveticanin is ranked No. 123 and has nine wins on the season. In doubles, the pair of Stevie Kennedy and Marie Norris are 4-0 on the season with a 3-0 mark at the No. 2 position.

Scouting the Bears
Brown is looking to snap a two-match losing streak after dropping matches to Syracuse (5-2) and Boston College (5-2). At the ECAC Indoor Championship, the Bears went 2-1 with wins over Penn (4-2) and Cornell (4-0). Brown has also posted wins this season of Rhode Island (7-0), Massachusetts (5-2) and Boston (6-1).

Scouting the Mean Green
North Texas is coming off a 4-0 win over Marshall after suffering four straight losses. The Mean Green also have wins over USF (4-3), Louisiana Tech (5-2) and Iowa (4-3). Maria Kononova is the only ranked player for North Texas coming in at No. 66 with five wins this season and two over ranked opponents. Tamuna Kutubidze also has five wins on the season with four of them coming at the No. 2 spot.

All-Time Series Records
Saturday’s match marks the first meeting all-time between TCU and Brown.

Monday’s match will be the 40th meeting all-time between TCU and North Texas and the seventh straight season the teams will be facing off. The Frogs hold a large advantage in the all-time series record at 37-2 and have won the last three straight matches. The match will be the 34th played in Fort Worth with TCU 31-2 against the Mean Green on the Bartzen Varsity courts.
