FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 70 TCU women’s tennis team will begin a four-game homestand by hosting regional rival North Texas on Wednesday, Mar. 5 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (5-6) and Mean Green (4-6) will play on the Bernard J. ‘Tut’ Bartzen Varsity Courts starting at 2 p.m., with free pizza from Buffalo Brothers being delivered between the singles and doubles matches.
The Horned Frogs (5-6) are just returning from a trip out west where they split their matches by defeating Sacramento State 4-3, before dropping the finale to No. 24 Washington 4-3.
No. 53 Stefanie Tan continues to lead the team with a 6-1 record at No. 1 singles. Tan has paired up with Seda Arantekin in the last few doubles matches and the duo have posted a 3-1 record between courts one and two.
Simona Parajova is still undefeated on the season at No. 2 singles with a 7-0 record. The junior from Slovakia is 2-2 against nationally ranked opponents and is ranked No. 5 in the Texas region.
Scouting the Opponents
North Texas picked up its first conference win of the season over UTEP last weekend with a 4-3 victory. The Mean Green are on a two-match winning streak and boast a win over a ranked opponent. Anatasiya Shestakova has won four straight matches and has clinched the wins for North Texas the last two matches at the No. 2 singles position.
All-Time Series Records
TCU holds an advantage against North Texas in the series with a 35-1 record. The only loss in the series the Frogs have was from 2012, when the Mean Green upset TCU 4-3 at home. The team avenged the loss last season by downing North Texas 4-2 early in the season and 4-1 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
