FORT WORTH – TCU’s women’s tennis team continues its six-match road trip Saturday and Sunday when it travels to Houston for matches against Houston and Rice, respectively.
The No. 33-ranked Horned Frogs are 11-1 on the year and have won eight-straight matches since a loss to No. 8 Alabama. Houston, TCU’s Saturday opponent, is 12-5. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
Rice, ranked 27th, is 11-4 on the year and faces William and Mary on Saturday. Sunday’s TCU-Rice match is set to begin at 11 a.m from Rice’s Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
TCU is 28-7 all-time against Houston and is facing the Cougars for the first time since 2005, a 4-0 Frogs win. The Frogs are 25-11 against Rice and have won the last 12 meetings. Houston and Rice are the first two of four-straight former Southwest Conference foes on TCU’s schedule. Baylor and SMU are next up for TCU.
Three Frogs are dotted throughout the ITA singles rankings with sophomore Stefanie Tan (8-3) leading the way at No. 65. Senior Olivia Smith (10-0) is ranked 79th and Simona Parajova (9-3) checks in at 104th.
Smith and Nichols, who have a 7-1 record this spring, are ranked as the nation’s No. 42 doubles duo. The Frogs are 21-7 in all doubles matches this season and have won the doubles point eight times in 10 matches that it was contested.
Rice has two singles players ranked among the nation’s top-105 in Natalie Beazant (No. 59) and Dominique Harmath (No. 105). The duo also is ranked No. 33 in doubles. Houston does not have any ranked players in singles or doubles.
