Women's Tennis Defeats North Texas, 6-1
FORT WORTH, Texas (April 5, 2001) -- The 26th-ranked TCU women's tennis team added another match to its win streak Thursday with a 6-1 win over North Texas.
TCU is now 13-3 while North Texas falls to 9-9. The Horned Frogs extend their streak to 10 matches, dating back to their last loss on March 3, to now 19th-ranked Oklahoma State.
The Frogs won all three doubles matches. At no. 1 Katrin Gaber and Karolina Roubickova defeated Melissa Hodges and Kristin Beedy, 8-0. Saber Pierce and Rosa Perez added their 19th win this year when they beat Benita Bittner and Natalie Clore, 8-2.
TCU dominated in singles action, winning at positions 1 through 5, winning each match in two sets. Freshman 98th-ranked Paty Aburto extended her winning streak to nine matches with her win at no. 3 against Beedy, 6-2, 6-0. At no. 1 Perez defeated Hodges, 6-2, 6-1, and at no. 2 Leoni Weirich beat Catherine Alain, 6-3, 6-4.
TCU head coach Roland Ingram looks to get his 300th win on Saturday when the Frogs host Houston at 11 a.m. on the Bernard "Tut" Bartzen Varsity Courts at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Ingram is 299-149 in 18 seasons coaching the Horned Frogs.
