Women's Tennis Earns No. 1 Seed in C-USA Championship

TCU earned the No. 1 seed in the 2002 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship which was announced on Monday. The Frogs will meet the winner of Thursday's match between No. 8 Cincinnati/No. 9 Memphis match on Friday, April 19 at noon on the Bernard "Tut" Bartzen Varsity Courts at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The championship will run from Thurs., April 18 through Sun., April 21 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. No admission will be charged for the event that begins at 9:00 a.m. each day. All 14 C-USA teams will participate in the championship. Six matches will be played each day (Thursday through Saturday) and four matches will be played on Sunday, with the championship match being held at noon. Parking for spectators will be available at Amon G. Carter Stadium with a shuttle running to the Tennis Center.
The 26th-ranked Frogs, who with their three wins last week moved to 17-4 for the season, have the best overall record in C-USA. Head coach Roland Ingram picked up his 324th career victory when the Frogs defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 5-1, on April 13.
It was announced April 15 that head coach Roland Ingram would be retiring at the end of the 2001-02 season. Ingram is in his 19th season as the head coach for the Frogs. Ingram is the only full-time coach in the history of the TCU women's tennis program. Under his direction, TCU has claimed three conference titles in two conferences and has had four players earn All-America honors.
Last season was one filled with accolades for Ingram. He marked his 300th career win when the Frogs topped Houston on April 7, 2001, then was named the WAC Coach of the Year as well as the ITA Southwest Region Coach of the Year.
