Preview: ISU and WVU

FORT WORTH, Texas – The final weekend of regular season action will take place on the road as the TCU women’s tennis team travels to Iowa State on April 20 and West Virginia on April 22.

The Horned Frogs (10-13, 0-7 Big 12) will head to Ames, Iowa, first to take on the Cyclones (9-14, 0-7 Big 12) on Friday at 2 p.m., before traveling to Morgantown, W. Va., to take on the Mountaineers (7-11, 1-6 Big 12) on Sunday at 10 a.m., CT.

TCU Notables
TCU took a quick break from conference action earlier this week as they scored a 4-1 victory over Texas State. The Frogs are still looking for their first conference win of the season after spending the last three matches on the road.

TCU continues to have a ranked singles player in Aleksandra Zenovka at No. 122 with the senior boasting 16 wins on the season with three over ranked opponents. Fellow senior Donika Bashota leads the team with 18 wins on the season while freshman Stevie Kennedy has picked up 18 victories in singles action. In doubles, Bashota and Alexis Pereira have paired up at the top spot and won four straight matches while Stevie Kennedy and Marie Norris have a team-best six wins on the year.

Scouting the Cyclones
Iowa State is still looking for a win in the month of April with the Cyclones last scoring a win on March 29 over Drake. Iowa State is also winless in Big 12 action with a 4-0 loss to Texas and 6-1 defeat at the hands of Baylor last weekend. Regina Espindola leads Iowa State with 12 wins on the season in singles while Maty Cancini and Margarita Timakova each have 10 wins. Cancini and Samantha Budai pair up for a team-best 12 wins in doubles with all of the victories coming at the No. 1 position.

Scouting the Mountaineers
West Virginia has seven wins on the season and picked up the first Big 12 victory in program history with a 4-1 win over Iowa State. Giovanna Caputo and Lyn Yuen Choo lead the Mountaineers with eight wins each in singles action. Choo pairs up with Paula Goetz for the team lead in doubles with nine victories.

All-Time Series Records
Friday’s match will be the sixth meeting all-time between TCU and Iowa State with the Frogs a perfect 5-0 in the all-time series record. This will be the fourth match played in Ames with TCU last getting a 4-0 sweep in 2016. The Frogs have only allowed the Cyclones to score two points in the five matches played and have swept four of the five matches.

Sunday’s match will also be the sixth meeting all-time between TCU and West Virginia with the Frogs also a perfect 5-0 in that series as well. This will be the fourth time the Frogs have traveled to Morgantown for a match with a 4-0 sweep coming in the last match in 2016. The closest match in the series came in 2013 with TCU squeaking by with a 4-3 victory in the first-ever meeting.
