Ingram Named Coach Of The Year In Southwest Region

Fort Worth, Texas (May 15, 2001) - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced today that TCU head women's tennis coach Roland Ingram has been named the Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year for the southwest region. Division I women's tennis is divided into eight regions, which in addition to the southwest includes the east, southeast, south, midwest, central, northwest and west regions.
Ingram, who earned his 300th career win this year with a 6-1 victory over Houston on April 7, guided the women to their second consecutive WAC Championship in 2001 by beating then-No. 10 Fresno State in the finals of the tournament 4-2. The women reached the second round of the NCAA Regional Championships before falling to Texas 4-1.
The Harlingen, Texas-native's team finished with a record of 21-4 this year and was ranked as high as 19th in country at one point during the season. His team also won 18 consecutive matches, beginning with a 5-0 win over Oklahoma on March 4. Their streak stayed in tact with a 4-0 win over Boise State in the first round of the NCAA regionals and ended at the hands of the Longhorns in the next round.
Ingram, who has coached the Horned Frogs for 18 years, is now eligible for the national awards which will be announced this Sunday evening, May 20, in Stone Mountain, Ga.
