Future Frog claims USTA Junior Doubles title

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Kayla Duncan, an incoming freshman for the TCU women's tennis team, claimed the USTA Southern Girls' 18 Doubles title on Wednesday with partner Whitney Kay in Little Rock, Ark. Duncan, a Winston Salem, N.C., product, will join the Horned Frogs for the 2008-09 season.
The top-ranked duo of Duncan and Kay won four matches en route to the doubles championship, all of which came against seeded opponents. Duncan and Kay defeated the fifth-seeded team of Boxx and Rangel by a score of 6-4, 6-2 to claim the title.
Duncan also competed in the singles portion of the tournament, winning three matches before falling in the quarterfinals to Kay in three sets. Duncan bounced back to defeat No. 17 Rachael Hart by a score of 6-3, 7-5 in the consolation bracket.
At Reynolds High School, Duncan was a doubles finalist at the state championship her freshman year and won the state doubles title her sophomore season. Duncan was also named the team MVP both years. In 2007, Duncan helped lead Statesville Christian to the 2A state title.
Duncan also competed on the USTA Southern section team, winning the 16's Intersectional by defeating Southern California in the finals.
