TCU Set to Open 2016 Fall Season

Sept. 15, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU women’s tennis team will kick-off the 2016 fall season this weekend as the team will split action between the Midland Invitational in Midland, Texas and the Duke Bonk Invitational in Durham, N.C.

Both tournaments will run from Sept. 16-18 with Alexis Pereira, Seda Arantekin, Caroline Wegner, Donika Bashota and Marie Norris making their way to Durham, while Olaya Garrido-Rivas, Sofiko Kadzhaya, Madison Tedford and Aleksandra Zenovka will stay in Texas for the Midland Invitational.

In the preseason Oracle/ITA rankings that were just published on Tuesday, TCU had two singles players and one doubles team earn spots in their respective polls. Washington State transfer and junior Donika Bashota earned the highest singles ranking of her career at No. 57, while Seda Arantekin checked into the singles poll for the first time in her career at No. 114. Arantekin was also ranked in the doubles poll for the fourth straight season as she and partner Caroline Wegner sit at No. 18.

The Horned Frogs are coming off a 2015-16 season where they finished tied for second in the Big 12 and reached their 17th NCAA Tournament. TCU was able to record program win No. 700 last season, as the team returns seven letterwinners from a squad that posted 16 wins during the season with seven of those victories coming over ranked foes.
