Preview: Big 5 Challenge

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU women’s tennis teams will kick-off the 2017 fall season this weekend as the team hosts the Big 5 Challenge from Sept. 22-24 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The Horned Frogs will face off against players from Texas Tech, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Michigan and Arizona State over the three days on the Bernard J. ‘Tut’ Bartzen Varsity Courts. Action will begin at 8 a.m., on Friday, 9 a.m., on Saturday and 8:30 a.m., on Sunday. Admission is free all weekend to fans.

In the Oracle/ITA rankings that were recently released, TCU junior Marie Norris leads the pack with a No. 80 singles ranking while seniors Donika Bashota and Aleksandra Zenovka check in at No. 118 and No. 122, respectively. Bashota also pulls in a doubles ranking with newcomer Aleksa Cveticanin at No. 35.

The Horned Frogs are coming off a 2016-17 season where they reached their 18th NCAA Tournament and appeared in the second round for the third straight year. The team, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Lee Taylor Walker, returns five letterwinners from a season ago, while also welcoming five newcomers.
