FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU’s women’s tennis team starts the fall portion of its 2010-11 schedule at the Rivera/ITA Women’s All-American Tennis Championships in Los Angeles.
“I’ve always looked at the fall as a basis for working on the things in their game and that’s how we’re approaching it,” TCU coach Dave Borelli said. “The girls have been working hard in their fitness and we’re looking forward to playing some matches.”
Senior Katariina Tuohimaa will represent the Horned Frogs in the singles prequalifying, while Maria Babanova and Idunn Hertzberg are entered in the doubles prequalifying.
Doubles duo Babanova and Hertzberg are in action first for the Horned Frogs at 8 a.m. PT. The tandem squares off with Florida State’s Noemie Scharle and Katie Rybakova. Last season, the TCU tandem was 1-2 as doubles partners.
Tuohimaa, the 85th-ranked singles player in the nation, begins her prequalifying play at 9:45 a.m. PT against Georgia’s Alina Jerjomina. The Helsinki, Finland, native was 20-14 in singles play a year ago.
Winners of Saturday’s prequalifying matches will advance to play Sunday with the opportunity to advance into qualifying.
