Women's Tennis to Host USTA/ITA Regionals

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team is set to open play in the ITA/USTA Regional Championships in Fort Worth on Thur., Oct. 17. The event will be held at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center and will run until Mon., Oct. 21.
The USTA/ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete at one of the 84 USTA/ITA Regional Championships held across the country.
Seeing action this weekend will be junior Stefanie Tan, who had an incredible season debut by making it to the Midland Racquet Club Invitational singles championship match. Tan was ranked No. 4 in the tournament and knocked off Maria Sant'anna of Tulsa (6-1, 6-4), Alison Ho of Rice (6-3, 6-4), Mata Cutura of Pepperdine (7-5, 0-6, 1,0) and No. 1 seed Samantha Vickers of Tulsa (6-2, 6-1), before falling to No 3 seed Lorraine Guillermo of Pepperdine 4-6, 6-4, (10-6) in the championship match.
Tan, a 2013 ITA singles All-American, next competed in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. Tan was ranked No. 30 in the ITA Preseason rankings and earned a bid in the main draw, but fell to Michigan's Emina Bektas in the opening round. Tan went on to defeat Nadia Ravita of Kentucky in the consolation bracket to make it to the semifinals, but lost to Breanna Morgan of Florida 6-4, 6-3.
Simona Parajova, who earned an ITA Preseason ranking of No. 103, also participated in the tournament in Pacific Palisades, Calif., but dropped her first-round match to Bianca Sanon of Columbia.
Parajova and Millie Nichols also competed in the Midland Racquet Club Invitational and won their first-round matches in the tournament. Parajova topped Eva Dench of Texas State (6-2, 6-1), and Nichols won by the same count over UTA's Ekatrina Tugarinova.
Action on the Bernard `Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts will begin at 8 a.m., all five days, with live results posted on GoFrogs.com at the conclusion of each day.
