FORT WORTH – TCU’s women’s tennis team hosts the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championship this weekend at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Play begins Friday at 8 a.m., and runs through Tuesday afternoon.

Participants from at least 17 Texas schools will be in attendance, bringing the Lone Star State’s top women’s collegiate players in Fort Worth. TCU is entering eight singles players and four doubles teams in the event. All play for Horned Frog players will take place on the Bernard J. “Tut” Bartzen Varsity Courts.

The champions of the USTA/ITA Texas Regional, along with winners from the other 11 regions across the United States, advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. That event is Nov. 3-6 at the prestigious USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.

TCU has enjoyed a successful fall run this season, highlighted by Federica Denti and Kelsey Sundaram’s doubles crown at the HEB Baylor Invitational last weekend. That duo will once again partner for the USTA/ITA Texas Regionals.

Other Frog success has come from Simona Parajova, Stefanie Tan and Millie Nichols. In her TCU debut, Parajova advanced to the championship finals of the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland. Tan advanced to the championships semifinals of that event, while Nichols won the consolation draw.

“I’m not too concerned with our results in the fall, TCU coach Dave Borelli said. “It’s always been a learning process here. Our goal is to improve as a team and as individuals so we can compete for a conference title in the spring, make the NCAA Tournament and advance to the Sweet 16.”

Tan is the No. 10 seed this weekend and will be joined in singles by Denti, Gaby Fernandez, Nichols, Parajova, Olivia Smith, Sundaram and Molly Welsh. TCU’s doubles teams are as follows: Nichols and Smith (No. 6 seed), Denti and Sundaram, Fernandez and Welsh and Parajova and Tan.
