FORT WORTH, Texas - Regan McGuire and Macy Capen each posted double-digit kills to lead the White Team to a 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15) victory over the Purple Team in the annual Purple and White Scrimmage at the University Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.

Despite having four players record double-digit kills, the Purple Team could not overcome strong serving and tough defense with the White Team tallying 10 service aces, 11 blocks and 55 digs in the match.

The Purple Team took an early 5-2 lead in the first set, but a kill from Macy Capen would spark a 13-0 run with Alexia Heist behind the service line. Blaire Pickens would put down a kill to stop the run, as the Purple Team slowly chipped away at the lead the White Team had built. After another kill from Pickens to make the score 23-15, Langley served up two service aces of her own to start a 7-0 run to pull the score to 23-21. The comeback would not come to fruition, as a block from McGuire and newcomer Mia Swanegan ended the set at 25-23 in the White Team's favor.

The second set would once again begin with the Purple Team taking the lead at 3-0, but that was the most points the team would string together in a row in the set. The White Team slowly built a lead that Purple could not overcome, as McGuire notched her seventh kill of the set to win 25-20 and gain a 2-0 lead in the match.

The White team would start the third set strong by capturing an early lead for the first time in the match. The Purple Team did not back down and battled back from a 10-5 deficit and went ahead 12-11 with a kill from Sutton Sunstrum. The teams would begin to trade points and tied the match on five more occasions, before a kill from Chyna Perkins launched the Purple Team into three straight points to finish off the set at 25-22 and grab a set win for the first time in the match.

The fourth and final stanza was all about little service runs for the White Team, with Heist and newcomer Skyler Flynn each serving up a couple of aces to help build an early lead. The attack from behind the service line sealed the final set for the White Team, as they captured the match with a fourth set victory of 25-15.

McGuire's 19 kills and only two errors for a .386 hitting percentage led all players for the match. Capen followed her with 17 kills, while Heist notched a double-double of 40 assists and 16 digs to go along with five service aces.

On the Purple Team, Pickens led the team with 15 kills, while Ashley Smith finished the match with 13 kills and Chyna Perkins had 11. Sunstrum was one of two players with a double-double after finishing with 10 kills and 10 digs. Langley also posted a double-double of 45 assists and 19 digs, while leading everyone with six service aces.

The Horned Frogs will compete next in the Alumni Match on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 2 p.m., in the URC. This is the final preseason scrimmage for TCU with admission free to fans.

The Frogs open their regular season on Friday, Aug. 29 at the Penn State Classic. TCU will take on defending national champion and preseason No. 1 Penn State in their first match of the tournament, with first serve set for 6:30 p.m., CT, in State College, Pa.
