Varsity Knocks Out Alumni in Four Sets

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team picked up a 3-1 (25-16, 25-12, 21-25, 20-25) victory over the Alumni on Saturday afternoon at the University Recreation Center.
TCU rolled through the first two sets and combined to hit a .433 as a team to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Alumni team would not back down as they fought back to win the third set - the first time in program history that the alumni have taken a set. TCU returned to its winning ways in the fourth set as Blaire Pickens and Yvonne Igodan combined for 10 kills in the set to take the match.
Igodan led all players for the second match in a row with 16 kills, four errors and a .387 hitting percentage. Pickens also notched double-digit kills by recording 12 on zero errors for a .667 hitting percentage. Ashley Smith was just shy of a double-double after chipping in nine kills and 10 digs, while Shane Peters led the defensive effort with 14 digs.
For the alumni, current assistant coach Lauren Otto and Irene Hester each recorded 10 kills, while Otto also finished with 11 digs for the only double-double in the match. Recent graduate Megan Munce made her return to the URC and dished out 36 assists and served up two aces.
The Frogs open their regular season on Friday Aug. 30 against Furman at 3 p.m., at the Georgia Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga. TCU will begin their second year in the Big 12 on Wednesday, Sept. 25 by welcoming defending national champion Texas to the URC at 6:30 p.m.
