LUBBOCK, Texas - Nothing came easy for the TCU Horned Frogs as they fought to the very end to come away with a 3-2 (14-25, 25-23, 23-25, 29-27, 15-11) victory over Texas Tech. The win improves TCU to 8-0 on the season. Kourtney Edwards led the Frogs with 16 kills, while Christy Hudson notched her first double-double of the season with 15 kills and 10 digs. Lauren Otto (14 kills) and Irene Hester (11 kills) each helped key the Frog attack.

In the first set, the Horned Frog struggled to shake out the cobwebs from the early morning start and the Red Raiders took advantage as they stormed out to a 6-0 lead. Christy Hudson got the Frogs on the board, but Tech went on an 8-2 run to open up a 14-3 lead.

TCU cut into the Tech lead with a 4-0 run helped along by two blocks as Devon Kirk teamed with Nirelle Hampton and Irene Hester to try and pull the Frogs closer. Kirk capped the run with her first kill of the set. It wouldn't be enough to dig out of the early hole and Texas Tech took a 1-0 match lead with a 25-14 victory.

A much more competitive game in the second set got the Frogs back on track. Tech fought their way to a 12-8 lead early, but Devon Kirk stopped the run with a loud kill down the middle. Back-to-back hitting errors by the Lady Raiders pulled TCU back within one, 11-12. Texas Tech would score four of the next six points to open up a 16-13 lead, but from there the Horned Frogs took over.

Otto blasted a kill off the block to spur a 5-0 rally that put the Frogs in front for good. Edwards and Hampton stuffed a Lady Raider attack to tie the game at 16 and Edwards gave the Frogs the lead, forcing a Tech timeout. Irene Hester responded out of the break with a loud kill for a two-point advantage, 18-16. An ace from Hester put TCU in control at 23-20. The Frogs withstood a 3-1 Tech rally to close out the 25-23 set victory, thanks to a kill from Edwards down the middle.

Texas Tech took a 2-1 match lead with a 25-23 win in the third set. The game got away from the TCU early as the Red Raiders broke a 4-4 tie with an 8-0 run. The Frogs would inch closer, getting within three, 12-15, but the Raiders always had an answer.

Trailing 24-16, the Frogs gained valuable momentum as they put together a 7-0 run to close within one, 24-23. Hudson, Edwards and Otto pitched in with kills, while the Raiders pitched in with two hitting errors. The run was too little too late as the Raiders closed out the win on a kill for Brandi Hood.

Game four was the toughest battle in the match as both teams battled to the end. After falling behind early, the Frogs rallied, tying the game on a Hampton kill and Otto put the Frogs on top. Another 3-0 run put TCU in front 12-9, capped by a Hudson/Edwards denial in the middle.

The Red Raiders had an answer with 8-3 run to take a 17-15 lead. A multitude of Red Raider errors helped push the Frogs back in control with a 23-19 lead. However, the Raiders had some fight as they worked the set to match point on a kill from Caroline Courtney. The Raiders served two balls out and Kourtney Blackwood dropped in an ace to give the Frogs a set point. An attack error sealed the 29-27 game four victory.

The Frogs raced out to a 9-4 lead in game five. Otto dropped in two kills and Edwards pitched in with two of her own to help build the lead. Texas Tech battled back and got within one, 11-10, but Hester killed the rally with a loud kill off the block. Three kills from Otto sealed the 15-11 win for TCU.

The Frogs (8-0) will play New Orleans Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. as they continue play in the Red Raider Round Up.
