AKRON, Ohio - The TCU volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-9) victory over West Virginia Saturday afternoon to improve to 2-0 in the Akron Invitational. Christy Hudson tallied nine kills to lead the team and Katelyn Blackwood recorded a match-high 10 digs.

TCU hit a stellar .359 in the contest with 35 kills. Along with Hudson's nine kills, Kourtney Edwards finished the afternoon with eight and Kristen Hester with seven. At the net, Kristen Hester racked up a match-high five blocks, while Edwards tallied three, two of which were of the solo variety.

After falling into a 5-1 hole, the Horned Frogs were forced to claw their way out, eventually taking a 10-9 lead on a kill by Hudson. West Virginia had an answer with a 10-4 run to open up a 19-14 lead, forcing a TCU timeout.

The break was just what the Frogs needed as they exploded for a furious 11-4 run that would give them a 25-23 set one victory. Irene Hester got the ball rolling with a kill and then dropped in an ace to close within three. A Mountaineer service error started a 7-0 run that turned the deficit into a lead. Kristen Hester notched an ace and Lauren Otto racked up two kills in the run. Another West Virginia service error locked up the come-from-behind victory.

Again, the Frogs would trail early in the second set as the Mountaineers stormed to a 7-3 lead. Irene Hester started another rally with a kill that put the Frogs on top, where they would stay. Hudson came calling with two loud, cross-court blasts, giving TCU a two-point advantage, 11-9.

Holding a 13-12 advantage, the Frogs used two West Virginia miscues to commence a 6-0 run that opened up the set. Edwards was instrumental in the rally with a solo block and an assisted denial with Megan Munce. TCU withstood a Mountaineer rally and locked up the 2-0 match lead on Hudson/Kristen Hester denial on the outside.

West Virginia held on early in the third set as it trailed by just two, 6-4. But a ball handling error spelled down as the Frogs opened up the set with a 7-0 run. Two kills from Kristen Hester and an ace from Munce gave TCU a 13-4 lead.

Another Mountaineer miscue spurred an10-0 run by the Frogs that put the set out of reach. Sloane Sunstrum teamed with Kristen Hester on a block and Christy Hudson notched two kills in the run that gave the Frogs a 13-6 lead. A service error by West Virginia ended the set with a 25-9 Horned Frog victory.

TCU improves to 7-3 on the season. The Frogs will wrap up play in the Akron Invitational at 6:30 p.m. (CST) against the host school, Akron.
