Volleyball Dominates NCCU

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The TCU volleyball team dominated North Carolina Central and won 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-21) to open the Spartan Spiketacular at UNC Greensboro Friday afternoon inside Fleming Gym.
The Horned Frogs (9-3, 0-0 Big 12) had 13 players contribute to the win against the Eagles (0-14, 0-0 MEAC), as the team hit .356 and recorded eight service aces.
TCU was in charge from the first point as a service ace from Trisha Langley put the Frogs on a 4-1 run to start the set. After a kill from Macy Capen, TCU would go on another run of points under the serving of Shane Peters. The Frogs took a commanding 15-4 lead and never looked back as they claiming the set 25-9. Yvonne Igodan led the team with five kills in the set and hit a .714 clip.
The Eagles did not back down and fought point-for-point in the second set and tied the set on eight occasions. Tied 12-12, a kill from Natalie Gower gave the push the Frogs needed to take control of the set, as TCU went on a13-4 run to end the set 25-16 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Frogs found themselves trailing the majority of the third set as NCCU took a 14-10 lead. TCU clawed its way back into the set under the offensive leadership of Stephanie Holland and Sutton Sunstrum, as the two recorded seven and five kills, respectively, in the set. Holland would end the set with her 10th kill at 25-21, as the Frogs swept NCCU 3-0.
Holland led the team in kills with 10, while Igodan and Gower chipped in eight and seven, respectively. Alexia Heist recorded 20 assists in the win, while Jen Miller saw action in the libero jersey and finished with nine digs.
TCU will conclude action at the tournament tomorrow by playing George Mason at 10 a.m. and host UNC Greensboro at 6 p.m. Live audio from each match can be found at GoFrogs.com.
