FORT WORTH, Texas - A tough battle Wednesday night did not end in TCU volleyball's favor as they came up just short to No. 5 Texas, 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-13, 27-25), at The Rickel inside the University Recreation Center in Fort Worth.

The Horned Frogs (10-11, 3-8 Big 12) were able to snag the opening set after holding the Longhorns (18-3, 10-1 Big 12) to a negative hitting percentage. Early runs in sets two and three by Texas gave them too much of an advantage that TCU could not overcome. The teams tied on nine occasions in the fourth set and the Frogs were able to hold off three match points, but one final attack error gave Texas the set and the match.

Ashley Smith finished with a double-double of 15 kills and 16 digs to lead the team offensively and defensively. Natalie Gower put down nine kills with no errors on 18 swings for a .500 hitting clip, while Sarita Mikals was also good for nine kills. Regan McGuire shut down at the net with eight total blocks, while Mikals and Scheevel also picked up double-digit digs from the backrow with 13 and 12, respectively.

Stat of the Match
3 - Ashley Smith recorded 15 kills against Texas to reach exactly 1,000 career kills in her career. Smith becomes the third person this season to reach the 1,000 career plateau as Sarita Mikals and Jillian Bergeson achieved the feat with digs.

Quotes of the Match
TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer
Opening Statement
"I just got done talking to our team and the biggest things that we were talking about is how they really put it all out there. We fought really hard and it is the best volleyball we have played in a long time as a team and as a group. We moved from point-to-point really well and played the way you want to be playing this time of year and really fought. We will get back at it tomorrow but more than anything, I am really proud of their fight."
