DENTON, Texas - The TCU volleyball team had its three-match winning streak snapped, as North Texas took a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-22) victory on Sunday afternoon in a nonconference showdown at the North Texas Volleyball Center.

The Horned Frogs (15-11, 5-6 Big 12) were led by Blaire Pickens with nine kills, while Ashley Smith chipped in six against a Mean Green (19-9, 9-5 CUSA) team that is on a seven-match winning streak and has not dropped a set in the month of November.

North Texas was able to put down 51 kills, while TCU was held to only 33 in the match. The Mean Green out-blocked in the match with eight to the Frogs' three, while also record six service aces to TCU's three.

Sutton Sunstrum led the defensive effort with 11 digs on the day for her 17th double-digit dig match of the season. Alexia Heist dished out 19 assists on the day, while also contributing seven digs.

The teams battled for points to start the set, but a kill and service ace from the Mean Green put North Texas ahead by two, 6-4. Mikals was able to put the set within one with a kill from the outside, as TCU fought to tie up the set after an error by the Mean Green, 8-8.

North Texas was able to extend its lead out to three, 14-11, after a block, but TCU used a block of its own followed by an error by the Mean Green to bring the set within one, 15-14. A trade of points back-and-forth continued until two kills form North Texas, along with an ace stretched the lead out to three again for the Mean Green, 19-16. TCU struggled to get points and form offensive momentum and ultimately dropped the first set, 25-19.

TCU found itself trailing early in the second set, 4-1, and had to slowly chip away at the lead. The Frogs were able to even out the match, 11-11 after multiple errors by North Texas. A crucial hitting error by TCU started a 3-0 run, as the Frogs had to call a timeout on the floor trailing 14-11.

Out of the timeout, Pickens notched a kill to bring the set within two, but that is as close as the Frogs would get the rest of the set, as North Texas capitalized off of errors by TCU to take the second set 25-18 and a 2-0 lead in the match.

After the break, TCU used kills from Sarita Mikals, Pickens and Mattie Burleson to jump out to a 4-2 lead. TCU continued to hold the lead and another kill from Pickens lifted the Frogs to a 15-11 advantage, as North Texas called a timeout.

The Mean Green did not back down and scored four straight points out of the timeout to even out the match at 15-15. The teams traded points and tied the set five more times before a block and a kill from North Texas gave the lead back to the Mean Green, 22-20. Pickens was able to slam down two more kills to keep the match close, but a kill and final block from North Texas sealed the 25-22 victory for the Mean Green.

TCU will continue action on the road for the next week and will resume Big 12 action, by first traveling to Baylor on Nov. 12 for a matchup live on FOX Sports Southwest at 7 p.m. The Frogs will then head to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State at 4 p.m., on Nov. 15.
