DENTON, Texas - A career-high 19 kills from Abigail Buckingham paced the TCU volleyball team as they swept Wyoming 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 26-24) on Thursday night in the opening round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) at North Texas Volleyball Center in Denton, Texas.

A tight battle to start the match ensued with the Cowgirls (17-14) taking the early 10-6 advantage before a Horned Frogs (13-16) comeback started behind the offensive arms of Anna Walsh and Buckingham. Facing a set point, Sarah Swanson was able to put down a kill followed by back-to-back Ashleigh Martin kills as TCU came back to take the set with a .300 team hitting clip, 28-26. The second set was a different story as the Frogs used strong serving to keeps its distance and take the set, 25-21, and go up 2-0 in the match.

After a rare 10-minute intermission, TCU found itself trailing by as many as six in the third frame but did not back down as Buckingham continued her leadership with eight kills and no errors on 16 swings. An attack error by Wyoming gave TCU its first match point and Buckingham and Sarah Langs sealed the sweep with the team's ninth block of the match.

Buckingham's 19 kills marked the 10th time this season recording double-digit kills, while Walsh put down 12 kills in the match. Dani Dennison led the team from the back row with 10 digs, while Lexi MacLean was able to pick up nine digs. Walsh led the team defensively at the net along with Lamprini Konstantinidou with 5.0 blocks each.

Quotes of the Match
TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer
Opening Statement
"Our team talked a lot about what kind of challenges we would come up against tonight. From playing on a neutral site, to noticing their setter was more active and different things like that. There were some challenges that we thought we would have and I think that they all came up and they handled them all. They were ready for it and I thought that was good. The first and third sets, we didn't get off to the best starts and dug some pretty big holes there. We stuck with it and we fought through it and I loved how they battled as a team tonight regardless of the circumstance. I am real proud of them and we are really happy we are going to be playing volleyball in December and looking forward to UNT or Oral Roberts tomorrow."
