Jan. 12, 2016

FORT WORTH -- Football's Jaden Oberkrom and volleyball's Ashley Smith have been named the TCU Scholar-Athletes of the Month for December for their work on and off the field.

With 19 seconds left in the fourth quarter against Oregon, Oberkrom hit a 22-yard field goal to tie the game at 31. The Arlington, Texas native also split the uprights on a 46-yard attempt in overtime.

Oberkrom's four field goals in the bowl game gave him 79 in his career, breaking the Big 12 record of 75 held by Oklahoma’s Michael Hunnicutt (2011-14). He finished the 2015-16 season making 21 of 25 field goals (84.0) and was perfect on all three attempts over 50 yards.

Smith, a native of League City, Texas, earned Honorable Mention All-America honors to round out her junior season. The outside hitter is the fourth player in program history and first since 2009 to garner All-America honors. Smith earned a spot on the honorable mention team after being named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Southwest Region First Team.

Smith was the offensive leader throughout the 2015 season and finished with a team-high 294 kills and 2.91 kills per set. Smith also led the team in service aces with 0.26 per set, while also recording 2.88 digs per set 0.63 blocks per set.
