Jan. 13, 2016
Walsh, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker who hails from Grapevine, Texas, has enrolled in classes for the 2016 spring semester and will begin competing with the indoor and beach volleyball teams immediately.
"Anna is a Horned Frog at heart as her father Thomas has been a professor here for over a decade,” Kramer said. “She grew up in here as a ball girl for basketball and TCU is home. She is a great teammate, hard worker and has an outstanding volleyball IQ. She will fit very well within the culture of our Horned Frog family and I expect her to make an immediate impact for us in the gym. She will also have an impact for us in the sand as she plans to play beach volleyball as well."
In her first collegiate season at Virginia, Walsh was honored as AVCA All-East Coast Region Freshman of the Year and was a member of the ACC All-Freshman Team. A four-time ACC Freshman of the Week honoree, Walsh finished third on the team with 301 kills and 2.59 kills per set and led the team with a .354 hitting clip.
Walsh was also honored as the Virginia State Rookie of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) to cap off her rookie campaign that included 15 double-digit kill performances and 21 matches where she recorded a .300 or better hitting percentage. Walsh put down a career-high 20 kills at Syracuse on Oct. 18 and recorded a career-best .700 hitting percentage at Pitt on Nov. 27. Walsh finished the season with 100 total blocks to go along with 19 digs, one service ace and 17 assists.
A local DFW product out of Colleyville Heritage High School, Walsh was a 2014 Under Armour First-Team All-American and was ranked No. 53 on Prepvolleyball.com’s Senior Ace’s list. Walsh made the All-Tournament team during high school at three tournaments and was named Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star-Telegram Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014.
A member of Texas Advantage Volleyball Club (TAV), Walsh was named an All-American by Prepvolleyball.com in 2013 and 2014, while also earning All-America honors at the Junior Olympics three times. Walsh earned a spot on the 2012 PrepVolleyball.com’s Sophomore 79 list and the 2013 Prepvolleyball.com’s Top 50 Juniors list. A finalist for Lonestar Volleyball Hitter of the Year Award, Walsh earned First Team All-District honors and was named District 6-5A Co-MVP.
Walsh is the daughter of Thomas and Kristine Walsh and has three brothers – Jackson, Thomas and Sean. Her brother, Thomas, is an offensive lineman for the TCU football team.
