Feb. 19, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas – Five members of the TCU volleyball team will take part in the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts from Feb. 19-21 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Juniors Jillian Bergeson, Regan McGuire and Sarita Mikals, along with freshmen Ashleigh Martin and Anna Walsh will take part in the tryouts this weekend that will be streamed online every day

“I've always liked to get my players as involved with the USA Volleyball pipeline as possible,” Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer said. “The tryout in Colorado Springs will allow our players to compete in the gym with some of the best in the USA and to be in the gym with the USA National Team staff. It should be a great experience for them.”

231 student-athletes from 22 different colleges and universities will be participating in the event in hopes of earning one of the 60 spots in the U.S. Collegiate National Team program that will have five different teams in three programs that serve as key components in USA Volleyball’s High Performance pipeline.

TCU finished the 2015 season by advancing to the first round of the NCAA Tournament, where they fell in a tight five-set battle with No. 7 Hawaii. The Frogs finished the season with an overall record of 19-10, which is the most wins since 2011, and a fourth place finish and 9-7 mark in Big 12 action. The Frogs had four all-conference honorees, three earn all-region and Ashley Smith became the fourth player in program history to earn AVCA All-America Honorable Mention.
