Volleyball Announces Spring Slate
March 18, 2015
FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team will return to the gym after concluding its inaugural sand volleyball season to begin the spring season that will include four competitions.
The Horned Frogs will open practice on Thursday and will play in two tournaments and a pair of individual match dates this spring under the director of new head coach, Jill Kramer.
"We are excited to get our competitive indoor season underway this Thursday," Kramer said. "We've been very lucky to have the opportunity to train both in the gym and sand environment this spring. I'm anxious to see what the players bring from the sand game back into the gym. They improved in the sand everyday and I'm confident that their transition back into the gym will be a smooth one."
TCU will open spring play on Saturday, March 28 with an 11 a.m., showdown at UTSA in San Antonio, Texas.
"I like the way our spring schedule has come together," Kramer said. "We will train for a week and a half before competing in a single match at UTSA. This match will give us an opportunity to go through a typical travel day/game day with our team, which is important for us to experience before the fall."
The Frogs will then take part in the FAST Complex Collegiate Tournament on April 11 that will include 12 schools from Texas and Oklahoma, with three of the teams in the field having competed in the NCAA Tournament last season.
TCU will then move on to the Lone Star Classic College Showcase in Dallas on April 18, before concluding its spring slate with a matchup at Arkansas on April 25 at 11 a.m., in Fayetteville, Ark.
"The next two events will be tournaments with multiple matches, both with premier teams in the region," Kramer said. "We will have the opportunity to play with the line-up a bit in these matches and change some things up a bit. We will close out our spring slate with a single match at Arkansas, which is a great regional match-up for us."
The Frogs will begin their 20th season in program history and first under Kramer this fall. TCU returns 13 letterwinners from the 2014 squad, including All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honoree Ashley Smith.
"These matches give us the opportunity to implement our new offensive and defensive systems in a competitive environment," Kramer said. "It's all about continuously learning and improving in the spring. I have always come from the school of thought that how smart you work in the spring season, has a direct effect on your fall season. For us, the fall begins now."
