FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Volleyball team wrapped up spring practices with its first annual "Queen of the Beach" Sand Volleyball Tournament. The team members paired off and competed against each other in a sand volleyball tournament on the sand courts behind the University Rec Center this past weekend. Nirelle Hampton claimed the top award and was namend "Queen of the Beach."

"We have been working out on the sand courts the last two weeks and wanted to do something a little different yet still competitive," said Coach Lewis.

During the competition the players rotated partners and played two games with each of their teammates. Lauren Otto had the early lead but Nirelle Hampton came roaring back to earn the title of "Queen of the Beach" with a 6-2 record. Otto and Katelyn Blackwood tied for second with records of 5-3.

"Often it is hard to motivate players near to the end of the school year but every match was a personal battle out there and I was really proud of the intensity of this group," said Lewis. "It turned out to be a great event and one we will make an annual tournament to conclude our spring practice."
