Kramer Inks Second Transfer

May 5, 2015

FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer added depth to her indoor volleyball roster on Tuesday with the addition of Iowa transfer and sophomore Kaylee Smith to the indoor volleyball team for the 2015-16 season.

Smith, a 5-foot-11 setter from Indianola, Iowa, signed a grant-in-aid and will be able to compete for the Horned Frogs immediately with three years of eligibility remaining.

"As soon as we met Kaylee, we knew we wanted her to be a part of our Horned Frog family," Kramer said. "Plainly put, she is just the type of person everyone can relate to and wants to be around. It was very apparent to us from the beginning that she is a team player, just by the types of questions she asks and the types of things that interest her. Kaylee has a high volleyball IQ and has already competed a season in the Big 10, so we like the fact that she has some maturity as a setter in the college game.

"Most importantly, I know that our team's culture is very important to Kaylee, and she will have an opportunity to help build the type of culture we are working daily to create within our volleyball program."

As a freshman at Iowa, Smith appeared in every match (31) and every set (106) with 14 starts on the season. In her debut campaign, Smith was the Hawkeye's assist leader for the year with 610 (5.75 per set) and led the team in assists in 18 of the 31 matches. Smith served up 18 aces on the season, while also picking up 106 digs. She recorded a career-high 33 assists twice and notched a career-high three service aces in two matches.

"I am excited and blessed to be joining the TCU family," Smith said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to play for Coach Kramer and I feel confident in the direction of the TCU program under her leadership, experience and culture of excellence. I am so excited to work with and learn from her in developing and executing the offense. I fell in love with TCU, the players and staff and know I can contribute positively to the future success of the program."

A 2014 graduate of Indianola High School, Smith was named all-conference and all-district for four straight seasons. Smith was named the All-County MVP as a junior and senior, while also garnering all-state honors in her final two seasons.

Smith racked up many accomplishments as a member of her Central Iowa Select club team, as she helped lead her teams to a first place finish at the 2012 and 2014 USA Junior National Championships and a third place finish in 2013. Smith was selected to the all-tournament team at the national championships from 2012-14 and was captain for two years in a row for the Iowa High Performance team. Smith was also a member of the USA Women's Junior National team in 2013, where as the setter and captain she led the team to a gold medal.
